Ocean Views at Sunday Brunch

I love a good brunch on Sunday (or Saturday) but Sunday always seems to be the most popular day for such indulgences. There are a few good spots in Huntington Beach that serve great breakfast food, but when it comes to “brunch” my qualifications are simple: buffet style and bottomless mimosas. Bonus if they allow pets.

BLK checks all three of these. Now, what makes BLK one of the best in my book? The food and views!

FOOD

I have grown to enjoy buffets, primarily only at breakfast.  So the number one thing that makes a buffet good is variety, right? Well, BLK has that and more. But the best part is it’s food you will actually eat. I have been to several buffets where their food is so “fancy” you, let’s be honest, don’t really enjoy it and leave feeling like you wasted money.  That is definitely not the case here…

BLK has a wonderful variety of all the usual suspects for breakfast: eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, muffins, plus cooked to order omelets, eggs Benedict and waffles! If you’re not a breakfast fan (gasp!), there is plenty to choose from including Kobe beef meatballs in marinara, mac n cheese, chicken and broccoli, buffalo wings, fish cakes, chilaquiles and more. On the lighter side, there is a variety of salads, fruit, chicken, ahi tuna, and fresh seafood.

After your third or fourth visit to the buffet, hopefully you have saved room for dessert! In another post, I’ll have to write about how to eat most effectively at a brunch. Seriously, there is a right and wrong way to eat too much food. Desserts. BLK has some delicious treats to choose from that are perfectly portioned. And by that I mean small so you can try a few brownies, tarts, cookies, carrot cake, creme brûlée or perhaps a waffle with chocolate chips.

DRINKS

Bottomless mimosas that are truly bottomless. Pitchers of pre made mimosas are always going around to keep your champagne glass full at all times. Tip: ask for an extra glass of OJ as they don’t pre mix them weak as one might expect. My only semi complaint about the mimosas is that you have to pay extra if want a juice other than orange.  There is of course a full bar with a great bar menu, so any other beverage can be ordered.

DOG FRIENDLY & THE VIEWS!
Other than the delicious food and drinks, they have a dog friendly patio and you just cannot beat the ocean views! Every seat in the house you can see the ocean, watch the surf and keep an eye on what’s happening at PCH and Main St.

Lastly, but also important is the cost. Right now, it is $34.95 per person – a great value in my opinion. They actually raised the price since they first started offering brunch so let’s hope they don’t get wind of just how awesome they are and start charging more. Ok, BLK?  Like they don’t already know… www.blkearthseaspiritshb.com

Happy Brunching!
