The Queen of the Desert

La Quinta Resort & Club, the Queen of the Desert

Palm Springs. Everyone loves the desert cities somewhere in between the middle of nowhere on the I-10 freeway connecting California and Arizona.  “Palm Springs” is the umbrella city for all the greats out there including Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Coachella and my favorite, La Quinta. It’s hard to exactly put a finger on why and what makes Palm Springs such a hot spot (pun intended). I may be biased because the only place I ever stay when in “Palm Springs” is the La Quinta Resort & Spa located in La Quinta.  This place is known as the “Queen of the Desert” and rightfully so…

The La Quinta Resort (LQR from now on) is like an older sister to the “Jewel of the Desert,” that is the Arizona Biltmore, which I also frequent and wrote about previously.  La Quinta and probably Palm Springs as a whole, can deliver whatever it is you’re looking for whether it’s a relaxing or romantic getaway, a place to party with friends and family – it is a very popular destination for bachelor/ette parties, or it’s even a destination to fly solo and recharge with some yoga and mental cleansing (is that a thing? It sounds right). LQR offers an opportunity for all of these which is why I love it there.

What makes LQR so different is the variety of experiences you are able to enjoy. For my husband and I, it is golf (for him) at their prestigious PGA West championship courses, lots of time by the pool and being able to enjoy the food and beverages that we bring for ourselves and enjoying what the resort has to offer.

An even better experience is being able to enjoy one of the few suites that have a private hot tub and/or pool.  Nothing beats rolling out of bed in the morning and heading straight to your very own private hot tub or rolling in at night after a delicious dinner at one of their three fabulous restaurants. If you can’t manage your way in to one of these suites, don’t worry there are still over 30 other pools you can enjoy, most of which are directly outside your front door. There is also an adult only pool 21 + where you can receive poolside service.

We were able to enjoy meals at only two of the three main restaurants as their renowned steakhouse, Morgan’s in the Desert, was on summer hours and not open during our stay. We are the Saturday to Tuesday travel type to avoid crowds as much as possible. If you decide to take a trip out here, do make sure to check hours and visit Morgans.

We frequent the Adobe Grill during our stay as there is just something about the heat that makes me want chips and guacamole with a side of margaritas. And they are delicious there! The guac is made fresh tableside and is almost a meal in itself.

The grounds at LQR are just beautiful to walk through and take in.  The property is huge and full of so much history that it is definitely worth reading about in the designated history room just off the lobby next to Morgans.  Built in the 1920’s it definitely worth learning more about why it is known as the “Queen of the Desert.”

The La Quinta Resort is like a home away from home. It has so much to offer and more amenities and activities that I did not mention. And in fact, next time I do plan to visit the spa which is just beautiful and maybe visit the gym. Maybe.

The La Quinta Resort & Club has it all and if you can stand the summer heat, there is no other place like it. Of course you don’t always have to travel here in the summer. In fact, Fall is one our favorite times of the year here. Sure, there may be other places you can stay, but why would you when you can stay, play, receive a royal treatment and do as much or a little as you want at your own private desert oasis.  The things I’ve mentioned here in this short post is only a mere glimpse of what all LQR has to offer.  For more information please visit their website: www.laquintaresort.com

Until next time…

Yes! Forgot to add “frequent celebrity sightings” as an additional perk to LQR
